What is the key to success? This has long been a question that many people both succeeded and failed at answering. The answer: Balance. Of course, for each individual this balance may vary. The questions you need to ask are “what is MY balance” and “what do I consider success”?
The most successful and happiest people in life have found a balance in their spiritual, physical, and psychological being. So let’s look at the these 3 areas to help you break it down better.
This is an exercise that you should in a quiet and relaxing place. Start with a breathing exercise. A breathing exercise is a way to regain or gain control of your physical and psychological state. There are several different breathing techniques that you can use. For the purposes of this exercise start by taking a slow deep breath in and release it fully.
Breaking down your Physical, Psychological, and Spiritually being means being very honest with yourself.
Physical: This means your physical health. Ask yourself the following questions:
- How do I take care of ME?
- What does my diet consist of? Is it healthy?
- Do I exercise? How often?
- How do I relax my muscles?
- Do I stretch regularly?
In other words, how do you take care of physical well being?
Psychological: This means your emotional and mental health. Ask yourself the following questions:
- How do I feel emotionally?
- What are my primary emotions? (happiness, hope, sadness, anger)
- Do I hold on to your emotions?
- Can I regulate my emotions?
- Can I express my emotions regularly and effectively?
In other words, how do you take care of your mental health?
Spiritual: This is your belief system. This greatly vary from person to person. For some people, this may be their connection with their religious beliefs. For others, this may be about your soul, beliefs, and morals. Ask yourself the following questions:
- Where does my happiness come from?
- How deeply am I connected to myself? and others?
- What is my deepest fear?
- Am I connected to my environment?
- What does love mean to me?
- What is my inspiration?
- Who am I?
In other words, how do you take care of yourself on a spiritual level?
When we are able to balance each inner area of our life and feel comfortable with the person who we are – we then can focus on the outward. The outward is our view of success. So, think about your answer above and ask yourself again, “what is MY balance” and “what do I consider success”?
For me, success is having goals (both short term and long term). It’s about meeting the needs of each inner area of my life, taking a moment every day to “stop and smell the roses”, and to keep myself positive.
