I finally made the switch to all natural deodorant. I have a “thing” about smell, especially when it comes to my underarms. No deodorant was ever good enough and I always seemed to smell (at least to me). I was using Clinical Strength deodorant and that seemed to finally work for me.
Of course, as I became more and more chemically free -I became more and more concerned about the health effects that my deodorant may be causing. Most deodorants contain Aluminum, Triclosan, Propylene glycol (PEG), Parabens, and Fragrances (to name a few). All Chemicals and All “not good for you”! To top it off most of these chemicals have been linked to health issues such as cancer, altering hormones, disrupting normal thyroid functions, diabetes, obesity, fertility problems and developmental disorders. And here we are rubbing it under our arms daily.
So although I was skeptical, especially when it comes to the way I smell, I finally took the plunge and made my own homemade deodorant. Seriously I am sooooo happy with the results and this homemade deodorant recipe. No more Smelly underarms and honestly I love it!
I like this recipe because I get to use my essential oils and it’s a chemically free product that works. This particular DIY Deodorant is also quick, easy, and effective.
What You Need:
- 1/2 cup of cornstarch or/ arrowroot powder
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (softened)
- 15-20 drops essential oils (I use Purification Oil, which is great for odor)
Directions:
- Combine the cornstarch, baking soda, and coconut oil in a blender
- Scrap out and put in a small glass bowl or jar
- Add essential oils
- Keep covered
You have now made your very own amazing deodorant!
NOTES:
- It does make a mess of the blender (I use a Blendtec), I use a paper towel to wipe out as much as I can and use very hot facet water to rinse, before I wash the blender.
- If you have sensitive reduce the amount of baking soda to 1/4 cup and increase the amount of cornstarch/arrowroot powder to 3/4 cups. This has a lot to do with your pH.
- Use a very little bit and rub in as best as you can.
